Stress. What is stress and how to overcome it

I got a call from a dearest friend almost crying because she felt overtake by her working and family responsibilities. She could not speak properly for a while until I helped her to calm down.

The word she was repeating once and again was stress.

Give me one minute to clarify where stress comes from and how you can overcome stress.

(Is you are an expert here we will call stress to distress. The bad brother of natural and useful stress)

Stress has different components, but we will focus on the keys.

You are stressed when you feel you cannot afford or manage a situation.

Stress is a feeling.

This can happen because;

  1. Actually you have not capacity at that moment to manage the demands from that situation.
  2. You have the capacity, but you do not recognize it. So you are evaluating that the situation overtakes you.

    2.A.This could be because you are evaluating the situation wrongly and exceeding your capacities
    2.B. Or you could be underestimating your capacities.

In my experience, people tend to underestimate their capabilities.

You use to move in a comfort zone inside your limits. So you have a tendency to think your limits are closer than where they really are.

You have listened about people doing extraordinary things when the situation demands it. A traditional example is a mum raising a car to save his son.

I will tell you something. Things like that can happen to you. You are able to do extraordinary things if you think you need it.

I will repeat it. You are able to do extraordinary things if you think you need it.

It is a belief. It is an unconscious evaluation.(unconscious as automatic)

The same situation causes stress to one person and do nothing to other.

Stress is a human concept.

You learn what is stress, when to have stress and how to manage the stress.

It uses to be an unconscious learning process.

First step to overcome stress, to know exactly what is stress and your personal meaning of stress.

Doing this you already will have 50% of the success.

Second, to re-learn how to evaluate stressful situations and how to manage stress to use it on your side.

Signals are warning for that to come. Things happen, but they happen during certain time. This is almost a universal law.

We simplify thinking that some things are even, which mean its just happen suddenly. But most of the things have a beginning or warn up, performance and a cool down.

Then, if you are aware enough you can catch those signals and improve your decision making process.

This means to accept that feeling pointing you a solution.

A simple game to fully enjoy life; Smile Hunter

What do you see when you look to the mirror?

Throw away pen and paper. To play you need to play, to move to act. Just reading or writing is going to do nothing.

Ready?

Ok. Instructions.

First. Warm-up.

Warm-up your face.

This is important. Before any body or mental exercises you have to warm-up. This simple process will increase your performance.

So, warm-up your face smiling.

Slowly open your mouth and close it.

Once again.

Try to bring the corners of your mouth as closer as you can to your ears. First slowly, and try to increase the timing.

Do it for twenty times.

Look.

Try to smile just using your eyes.

If you can use a mirror it would be better.

Please, do it just with your eyes.

Ten times.

Well, now try to do it using all your face.

First, you could practice a normal smile. Second, try with a big smile. Third, use a very tiny smile.

Now, you are ready to Smile Hunting.

This will be an awesome day so get your best. Choose your best dress or suit. Do you best.

Today is your day.

You will only score full smiles. Set your standards and be honest with yourself.

You will need to write down your statistic. This is the moment to pen and paper.

Remember you are hunting full smiles. We do not want small smiles.

Method.

Choose your target. Wait until she or he is close enough. Be patient. Then, shot them with your best smile. Make impossible to escape from your smile.

Come on tell me how many do you get.

This is a very powerful weapon.

Human being come with genetic software to give smiles back. It is inside every normal human being.

If you do not get a smile back this could be because that person has a social conditioning virus or his / her system is overloaded.

A healthy person will smile back.


This is so powerful that doctor use to recognize some brain accidents.

But, keep focus.

The game is to hunt as many smiles as possible

Remember to write down every score.

If you follow the instruction you will have good results.

You will make the day of a lot of people. You will get more friends. I can guaranty you that you will be healthier if you smile more.

Great, isn’t it?

Important. After your play session you have to cold-down.

Do it. Do not try to do it perfect, just do it.

My dearest friend,

It is broking my heart to see how very valuable people are frozen waiting for the perfect moment to go for their dreams.

You are prepared.

You do not need to wait for the perfect moment. You do not need to try to do it perfect.

You just need to do it.

There is no perfection. Thank God, there is no perfection.

You can reinvent yourself everyday.

Why to be perfect? If you would be perfect it would mean you keep that stage forever. That is counter nature.

Evolution means change. Change is the only thing that is permanent.

Do not try to do it perfect. Just do it.

This is a very valuable lection I have received from my own coach. He use to repeat it to me one and again.

I say thank you. This is something a lot of people need to repeat every day.

Do not stop your steps to success.

Stop to suffer frustration and fear because you want but you think you are not prepared yet.

Move your feet today. Just do it.

One thing at a time. A small step.

Just do it.

How to introduce yourself. Building your personal presentation.

You have only a chance to make a first good impression. How much times have you dedicated to build your presentation?

Tom Peters tacked about to become a BRAND YOU. Tom used to talk about what is going to come. Brand you was cool the first we hear about it. Now is live or death. Do not mind if you are working to other or to your own. It is mandatory.

So ask to you, how are you introducing yourself? How do you make your own presentation?

When you try to know about somebody what you are doing is to use an analogy process to classify that person. This is basic psychology. You make an automatic comparison between that person information and your personal categories’ database.

This is very important. It is a subconscious process, but you can do it consciously.

How much time do you use to prepare your introduction?

How do you decide what is the relevant information?

We could use my own example.

I could say” Psychologist. I do training. I write. It is ok, isn’t it?” This is not saying anything special about me.

Well, try with “ I help people to make life simple” or “ I help to normal people to access and use state-of-the-art discoveries about human behaviour to change to better.” This is a little better. It sounds more specific. How can we improve it?

“Acknowledged expert, with more than 20 articles published, about how you can self-improve easily, having fun and getting the best results from your investment in time and resources. He has a great experience in training about how to apply coaching to different subjects.”

Clear and specific. I am quite sure you can do it better.

At this stage you should realise what I want to show you.

What are the questions to answer?

I will ask you to use seven questions to help you to build your personal presentation.

Who are you?

Do not forget who are you. Do not try to be somebody else.

What is your service or product?

Please, be clear, simple and specific. Everybody has to understand what you say.

What is making you so special?

We all are special. You too. If you have some difficulties to find what make you special, then, ask to your friends and colleges. Accept their answers and say thank you.

Identify what make you different, especially from your competitors.

You will need to know your competitors and your market. This is not an option.

Why should I trust on you?

You need to build your credibility. Trust is the stronger bond with any client.

How do I know that you are state-of-the art?

I want the latest in my field. How do I know that you are the guy with that knowledge.

Could you prove your value?


Tell them about your experience. Give them some testimonies. Testimonies are the best business card.

Use these questions to build your best presentation. Use it each time you have to introduce yourself.

Ask others for feedback. Ask to those you consider as your Peer Group. Do not try with everybody.

Make life simple, fun & efficient. Make your time and efforts work on your side.
